"LET THEM BE KIDS" is an all volunteer, non-profit organization created to build community capacity on the grassroots level; while building playgrounds, skate parks and fitness parks across Canada. These projects leave a legacy of community members who are inspired and better equipped to lay a strong foundation for a brighter tomorrow.
The Elizabeth Rummel School & Community Playground Project is a school directed initiative that will replace an outdated wooden play structure with a safer, enhanced and larger capacity structure on the joint-use land adjacent to the school. The project’s scope will include further enhancements to the outdoor and field area. The intention of this venture is to strengthen our sense of community and to inspire and empower all of our residents through involvement in this project from “conception” to “installation”.

Playground Dedication
Our new playground will be named "May Riva Community Park", in dedication to our local hero, May Riva.
May (Doris Mary) was born July 2, 1917, in the family home which stood on Main Street in Canmore next to what is now the Quarry. She attended the Canmore School through to Grade 12. May joined the Forces in 1942 with the Women’s Division, R.C.A.F. She received her training for Transport Command in Toronto and was stationed in Claresholm, Alberta, and Patricia Bay, B.C., before being sent overseas to Yorkshire, England.
After her discharge from the R.C.A.F., May worked in Kamloops and Penticton, before returning to Canmore to be near her parents. In 1975 she became assistant matron at the Bow River Senior Citizens Lodge. On her retirement she moved into the lodge.
May led a life of volunteerism and community service. She was an active member of the Rebekah Lodge and delivered Meals on Wheels for years. May has been named Town of Canmore Woman of the Year, as well as Volunteer of the Year. She has been recognized by the Rebekah Lodge and Canmore Rotary for her service to the community. She is still active and helps friends in town by visiting, running errands, and driving them to appointments.
